Connect an agent

Each drive has its own MCP URL. Add it to your agent, sign in through your browser and choose what the agent may do. Clients without OAuth can use an access key.

How sign-in works

mcpdrives is an OAuth 2.1 authorization server, and each drive is a separate protected resource. When your agent first calls the drive, it receives a challenge that points to the drive's metadata. The agent registers, opens your browser on the approval page, and exchanges a one-time code for tokens. PKCE with S256 is required.

On the approval page you see the app's name, which the app supplies itself, the address it returns to and its client ID. You choose a name for the connection, its access, the folders it can see and how long it lasts. The agent's access token lasts 60 minutes by default and renews with a refresh token until the connection ends or you revoke it.

We test the full sign-in flow with the official MCP TypeScript client. The steps below follow each client's own documentation. If a menu has moved in your client, use its documentation link.

Claude Code

  1. Run the command in a terminal.
  2. In Claude Code, run /mcp, choose the drive and sign in. A browser opens so you can approve the connection.
  3. Add --scope user to make the drive available in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http launch-assets https://cloud.mcpdrives.com/mcp/d4k2m9x7q1w8e5r3

Codex

  1. Add the drive, then sign in. The Codex app, CLI and IDE extension share this configuration.
codex mcp add launch-assets --url https://cloud.mcpdrives.com/mcp/d4k2m9x7q1w8e5r3
codex mcp login launch-assets

Claude

  1. In Claude on the web or desktop, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Launch assets, paste the URL and choose Connect. Approve the connection in the browser window that opens.

Cursor

  1. Install with the link, or add the configuration to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
  2. Sign in from Cursor's MCP settings.

Add to Cursor opens Cursor with the drive filled in.

VS Code

  1. Run the command in a terminal.
  2. Start the server from the MCP Servers view in VS Code and sign in.
code --add-mcp '{"name":"launch-assets","type":"http","url":"https://cloud.mcpdrives.com/mcp/d4k2m9x7q1w8e5r3"}'

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT settings, open Apps and Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on developer mode.
  2. Create a connector with this URL and OAuth authentication. Developer mode depends on your plan and workspace settings.

Other clients

  1. A client that supports Streamable HTTP and OAuth needs only the URL.
  2. A client without OAuth can use an access key from the drive's Access tab, sent as a bearer token.

{ "mcpServers": { "launch-assets": { "type": "http", "url": "https://cloud.mcpdrives.com/mcp/d4k2m9x7q1w8e5r3", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <access key>" } } } }

Access keys

Some clients cannot run an OAuth sign-in, such as a script in CI. Create an access key on the drive's Access tab instead. You choose its name, access and expiry, and it is shown once. Send it as a bearer token:

Authorization: Bearer mcpd_key_…

An access key is a connection like any other: it appears on the Access tab, its changes are recorded under its name, and revoking it stops it on the next request.

Troubleshooting

The agent says it is not authorized

The connection was revoked, expired, or the drive is paused. Remove the server from your agent's settings, add it again and approve the new connection.

The approval page says the app is unknown or the return address is unregistered

The client registered with different details than it used to sign in. Start the connection again from the agent. mcpdrives never redirects to an address the app did not register.

Someone without an account wants to connect

Send them a share link from the drive's Access tab. They open it in their browser first, then connect their agent and approve it there, within the limits of the link. Share links explains the options.
